When you browse pet stores or look for hedgehog cages for sale online you will quickly notice a lot of options that are actually dangerous for your pet.
Many cages marketed for small animals like guinea pigs or ferrets are not suitable for hedgehogs without modifications.

Solid Flooring: This is non-negotiable. Wire bottom cages are incredibly dangerous. Hedgehogs have delicate feet and legs; wire bottoms cause a painful foot infection known as bumblefoot and frequently lead to broken limbs when legs slip through the grates.

Absolutely unequivocally, yes. A hedgehog wheel is not an optional accessory; it is a mandatory piece of equipment.
Because hedgehogs have a biological need to run for hours every night, depriving them of a wheel leads to severe obesity, depression and cage rage (destructive stress behaviors).
How big does a wheel need to be for a hedgehog?
